Dementia Friendly Courtyard, Tallangatta Health Service

Reflecting best practice for dementia patient design, the design re-imagines the existing courtyard as a welcoming garden.

A looping path provides a sense of journey with designated spaces for resting and activity, and features that evoke memories for patients. Raised gardens in front of the windows provide a visual connection from the bedrooms. Shade structures, trees and a water feature cool the garden in summer months, while evergreen planting to the boundary fence provides enclosure and privacy from the adjacent hospital environment.
