Remembrance Park, Hay
Hay Park is a large existing open space in Hay which comprises an existing adventure playground as well as formal sports grounds and associated buildings. Our brief was twofold: we were asked to design a reflection garden incorporating the existing Boer War monument and as well as a nature playspace providing an alternative to the structured play of the existing adventure playground.
The design has three key spaces. The Garden of Reflection features a sunken lawn with formal tree planting which visually and spatially connects the Boer War monument and Lone Pine tree. The Garden of Discovery includes a water course which starts from a ‘grotto’ set in a play forest and winds through to the existing lake on site. Elements such as weirs, fort building and hammocks provide a variety of play experiences for young and old.
