Lachlan Street Upgrade Master Plan
The Lachlan Street Upgrade Master Plan is a comprehensive master planning document for Hay’s main street, which considered opportunities for the revitalisation of the town centre, including entries and connections to open space, and the Murrumbidgee River.
Through this 10-month process we have developed an understanding of community aspirations, as well as the physical environment and the less tangible, authentic sense of place that is Hay. The project included a rigorous engagement process to ensure that the community had several opportunities to help the shape the final design outcomes and sought to identity and celebrate Hay’s heritage, rural community spirit and unique natural environment.
Key elements include a trail of sculptural over-sized emus directing the visitor into the town centre from the roundabout in South Hay, shaded pedestrian gathering spaces at corners, and a strategy for street tree replacement.
