Lions Park, Hay
Inspired by the form of the Murrumbidgee River as well as its role as a transport route throughout Hay’s past, the design seeks to create a physical and visual connection between the Murrumbidgee River and Hay's main street.
The playspace features two raised land platforms extending from the existing levee bank connected by a play bridge. The 6.5m high lookout / play tower sits on a central mound providing opportunities to climb, slide and view out over the floodplain and river.
A range of different climbing experiences have been included as well as swinging, jumping and spinning, with a focus on the needs of children with autism and sensory processing issues. Protection of existing trees, parking and vehicular movement have also been considered.
